Burmatex Carpet Tiles Made in Britain for Heavy Contract Commercial Use

Burmatex is a British designer and manufacturer of heavy contract carpet tiles and carpet planks used extensively in commercial indoor spaces such as offices,  hospitality, retail,  health service and education.

Burmatex has a long manufacturing history dating right back to 1917, and is today one of Britain’s foremost designers and producers of commercial grade office carpet tiles. On a single site in Yorkshire the company produces the complete carpet tile from the manufacture of the backing through to the tufting, cutting and finishing process.

what about sustainability & green credentials?

Well, you could say that they’ve been at it far, far longer than most – certainly in terms of recycling!  In 1917, the mill site, from where they still operate today, was used for rag sorting for making new material from old (new cloth from old). Later, in the 1930s, they started producing nylon and polyester fibre reclaimed from recycled parachute cord, which was later used in the manufacture of their first carpet products.

Today, all Burmatex carpet tiles are produced using 100% renewable electricity, and contain more than 60% recycled materials which includes the yarn and fibres.  The tile backing, which is also produced on-site rather than sourced from elsewhere or abroad, is constructed of  75 % locally sourced reclaimed content.

Update: In January 2023 Burmatex launched a brand new carpet tile, which they’ve named Arctic, which is made from the world’s very first  Carbon Negative Recycled Yarn.
