Origin is luxurious, thick, hardwearing & soft under foot. With a pile density of 1300 grams per square metre this beautiful cut pile carpet tile provides the ultimate in performance and appearance. Although tufted loop carpet tiles are the norm and cut pile is usually used only in the boardroom or executive suites in high-spec offices, Origin is a high performance tile that can work well pretty much everywhere.
Cut pile has a completely different appearance to loop pile and it is this that gives it its more luxurious and softer appeal.
The carpet in your home is most likely to be Cut-Pile, so what is it? Yarn is typically attached to the carpet backing mat in a series of loops. These may be left as loops and the resulting carpet is a loop-pile. Alternatively the tips of the loops can be shaved off and this results in a cut-pile. Cut-pile is easily recognisable by its soft fluffy appearance but in order to produce something that looks good and wears well it generally needs to have a much heavier pile weight (a lot more yarn per square metre) than a loop carpet – in other words, considerably more yarn is needed to produce a good cut-pile carpet than a loop pile.
As such, cut-pile carpets tend to cost more due to the increase in material and the additional processes incurred during manufacturing. Is it then suitable for use in an office? Well yes and no! Certainly a broadloom carpet (sheet carpet) is normally inappropriate in an office – for a host of reasons. But in carpet tile form, yes, as long as it is produced from the right type of yarn and to an appropriate density and quality. You will also need to maintain it in a different way in order to keep it looking nice. This type of carpet should ideally be vacuumed with the more traditional type of vacuum cleaner with a mechanically rotating brush as this refreshes the pile and ‘fluffs it up’. The non-brush vacuum head may leave it looking a little flat.
As for the specification, with all carpet tiles we recommend for commercial use, the yarn should be nylon and should be solution dyed. The pile weight should be substantial, and just so that you know what to look out for, the loop tiles we offer range from pile weights typically of between 500 and around 800 grams per square metre, where as our premium luxury cut pile, Origin (detailed below) is a massive 1300g/m²!
Is it as good as a loop pile carpet tile? Yes it is, and better in many respects, although you may still need to carefully consider where and how you use it in your office. A good quality loop pile may be better suited to heavy traffic areas and general desking areas, but also cut-pile is fairly limited to design flexibility and is usually limited to plain colours whereas we can create some amazing designs with patterned and textured tiles. So, although it can be used anywhere in the office environment, it is usually reserved for the executive and guest areas.
